This weekend, the campus of Lipscomb University will transform into something far bigger than a sporting venue—it becomes a stage for courage, community, and pure human spirit as the Special Olympics Tennessee Summer Games return.
Athletes from across the state will gather to compete, connect, and celebrate what sport is really about: showing up, pushing limits, and inspiring everyone watching. From the first whistle to the final medal ceremony, this event is a reminder that greatness isn’t defined by outcome—it’s defined by effort, heart, and resilience.
More Than Competition
The Summer Games feature a wide range of events, including:
- Track & Field
- Bocce
- Powerlifting
- Pickleball
- Healthy Athletes initiatives
Each competition is packed with energy, encouragement, and unforgettable moments. Whether it’s a personal best on the track or a first-time lift in powerlifting, every victory matters—and every athlete is celebrated.
But what truly sets this weekend apart isn’t just the competition—it’s the community behind it.
The Power of Showing Up
Events like this don’t happen without people stepping in and stepping up. Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Summer Games, helping create a seamless and supportive experience for every athlete involved.
Right now, there’s a strong need for volunteers on Sunday:
- Powerlifting: 5 volunteers (7 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
- Bocce: 35 volunteers (7 a.m. – 12 p.m.)
- Track & Field: 30 volunteers (7 a.m. – 12 p.m.)
- Healthy Athletes: 45 volunteers (8 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
- Pickleball: 14 volunteers (8 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
- Awards: 25 volunteers (morning or afternoon shifts available)
Even a few hours can make a major difference. This is one of those moments where giving your time directly impacts someone else’s experience—and creates memories that last a lifetime.
A Call to the Nashville Community
If you’ve ever talked about wanting to give back, this is your opportunity. Grab a friend, rally your team, or bring your family—this is the kind of event that sticks with you.
Encourage anyone you know—friends, coworkers, students, community groups—to get involved and be part of something meaningful.

Final Push, Lasting Impact
We’re in the final stretch—and this is where Nashville shows what it’s made of.
Let’s show up for these athletes the same way they show up every day: with effort, energy, and heart.
