Introducing Body & Ballet Collective: A Revolution in Fitness

Welcome to a new era of fitness with Body & Ballet Collective, a unique approach to exercise that combines the elegance of ballet with the practicality of conditioning. This innovative blend, founded by Nashville native Melissa Chera, was born out of a desire to create a fitness experience that not only sculpts the body but also nurtures the soul. Melissa’s journey from a music career to motherhood and ultimately to creating this revolutionary fitness method is inspiring and transformative.

Melissa, who grew up in the Bell Meade area and attended Ole Miss, has always been passionate about fitness. After becoming a mother, she was disillusioned with her post-pregnancy fitness routine. Despite trying Pilates for over two years, she wasn’t seeing the results she desired. During this time, she reflected on her earlier experiences with ballet conditioning, a method she discovered in college and had always considered the gold standard for building a strong, graceful body.

Drawing on her extensive background in ballet conditioning, Melissa decided to develop a new fitness system—one that was accessible, effective, and rooted in the rich tradition of ballet. Unlike traditional ballet, which has often been confined to the walls of exclusive academies, Melissa wanted to bring this powerful conditioning method to the public. She recognized the need for a fitness program that could cater to everyone, from former dancers to complete beginners and from the young to the elderly.

Body & Ballet Collective offers a variety of classes designed to meet people wherever they are in their fitness journey. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting, there’s something for everyone. The signature class, Ballet Blend, is a perfect mix of standing work and floor exercises, providing a full-body workout that enhances posture, balance, and flexibility. For those looking for a more targeted approach, classes like Pure Mat focus on building strength while lying down, making it ideal for those with balance issues or joint concerns.

What sets Body & Ballet Collective apart is its commitment to personalized attention. Class sizes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 10 to 12 participants, ensuring each individual receives the guidance they need. Instructors take detailed notes on participants’ physical conditions and past injuries, ensuring that every class is tailored to the needs of those attending. This level of care reflects Melissa’s deep commitment to the well-being of her clients, making Body & Ballet Collective a place where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported.

Beyond physical fitness, Body & Ballet Collective aims to foster a sense of community. Melissa has built a network of trusted local businesses to create a Community Collective, including massage therapists, estheticians, and more. This initiative provides members access to vetted service providers, making it easier for newcomers to Nashville to find reputable services and form connections within the community.

As Body & Ballet Collective prepares to open its doors in the fall of 2024 near the Virgin Hotel on Music Row in Midtown, excitement is building. The studio also wants to expand, with plans for a second location in Franklin by 2025. In the meantime, Melissa is hosting pop-up events around the city, giving people a chance to experience the unique offerings of Body & Ballet Collective firsthand.

Melissa invites you to join the Body & Ballet Collective community if you’re ready to elevate your fitness journey.
