Q&A WITH OWNER AND PERSONAL TRAINER, KATE MOORE, AT getFIT615
We mean your gym bag. For some, it’s a top of the line, multi-functional fashion statement. For others it’s a simple backpack. No matter how fancy their features are, what really matters is what lies within. This month we asked owner and personal trainer at getFIT615, Kate Moore, to show off what her bag holds within.
WHAT ITEMS DO YOU ALWAYS CARRY IN YOUR GYM BAG?
My Swell water bottle. Always. It doesn’t matter if it’s full or empty, I’ve got it! The best thing about it is it keeps my water cold for 24 hours and my coffee hot for up to 12. Best buy ever!
TELL US YOUR GO-TO PRE-WORKOUT AND POST-WORKOUT SNACK/DRINK?
Water. I sweat A TON. If I’m not hydrated before and after a workout, my body always lets me know it’s not very pleased with a killer headache. I don’t have a specific routine regarding pre and post workouts, but I tend to drink coffee before I workout which is partly due to them being at 9:30AM every day. I also tend to drink coffee AFTER I workout too. But that’s due to the fact that I really like coffee 🙂
You can normally find me at the Jam Coffeehouse on Wedgewood when I leave getFIT615 after the 7AM class. If I’m practicing yoga, I’ll save my coffee for later. It gets hot in the Shakti room!
As far as snacking goes, I eat what my body needs. This morning I ate some eggs and an avocado for breakfast after my workout. Delicious!
WHAT’S THE NEWEST PIECE OF GEAR/APPAREL YOU’VE PURCHASED?
Some ALO Yoga gear from FitLoft! I’m actually wearing them as we speak! They are this new little boutique on West End. They’re locally owned, so naturally I dig it. The girls who own it practice Crossfit so it has a ton of cute Crossfit gear. But even if you’re not a crossfitter, they have a bunch of great stuff!
I require all of my gear to be multi-functional, so it doesn’t matter if I’m going to a last minute yoga class, HIIT or Crossfit, my outfit and I are ready!
WHAT’S CHANGED ABOUT YOUR GYM BAG OVER THE PAST YEAR?
I’ve realized that I need less. I don’t wear a ton of extra things. I don’t wear a headband. I don’t carry an extra sweat towel. I don’t carry lotion around. I don’t need a whole change of clothes.
This is partly due to, thankfully, living really close to getFIT615, so I get to go home a few times a day. The other part is that I’m ok with just being sweaty. Let the sweat drip!
IF YOUR BAG SOMEHOW CAUGHT FIRE AND YOU COULD ONLY SAVE ONE ITEM, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Emma (my dog) normally comes to the gym with me, so I’d probably ditch the bag and save her!
ON A GOOD DAY, YOUR OPTIMAL WORKOUT ROUTINE LOOKS LIKE…
Teach the 6 and 7AM classes, coffee, workout, yoga or ballet at 9:30, teach the noon, do some work/run some errands, then teach at night. Shower somewhere in there… Also, food somewhere in there. I normally eat after I workout and then between the nooner and the afternoon classes.
FAVORITE QUOTE/MANTRA YOU LIVE BY?
“Who are you not to shine”! This whole idea that we are actually responsible for showing up authentically has changed everything for me. It means that it’s not acceptable for us to just breeze through life never really showing up. We all have a purpose and the world needs us to go after that with everything we have!
Applying that to everyday life means that I don’t do something unless I feel authentic in that. I keep my word when I tell someone that I will do something. I don’t over commit myself. That way, when I do something or go somewhere, it’s because I actually want to! I give myself the space to shine!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
I’ve been really digging yellow for a while. Like, bright-ass yellow! I think it has something to do with the fact that I’m a do-er. I like to make plans, and I like to have ideas, but I REALLY like getting shit done! I LOVE crossing everything off of a to-do list! Yellow is such an energizing color for me and it makes me feel like I can do anything!
HOW OLD ARE YOU? AND HOW OLD DO YOU FEEL?
Oh I hate answering this question haha. We have such a stigma attached to age. People are always so shocked when they find out how old I am… I’m only 25! And I guess I feel 25! My friends always joke that I’m 25 going on 35, but I’ve never been 35 so…
I’ve done a TON of learning in the past 2 years. I’ve learned a lot about who I actually am instead of just being who I think I should be. One of my goals is to be a life-long learner. I used to think that I already knew everything and knew my exact direction, but it’s so refreshing to know that I am always learning, and my direction is ever changing.
WHO DO YOU ADMIRE OR LOOK UP TO AS A ROLE MODEL?
SO many people. The Farina sisters from Shakti have been incredible mentors for me. They’re so much love and they support me in everything that I do – they have since GetFit615 started!
Murn always asks me the tough questions that I don’t always want to hear or answer (and she listens without judgment) and I always appreciate that.
I have a friend who I used to work with at PCB Entertainment who has talked me through a lot of big decisions – he’s someone I know I can call at any hour and he’d be there. He has a very realistic and straightforward view on life and that helps me keep my point of view in check. He’s also taught me a lot about having grace and forgiveness in myself, not just other people. He admires me for how I appreciate my friends and people I love, and he encourages me to value my youth.
My friend Ashley, who I get coffee with on Tuesday mornings (the more I write, the more I realize that I might have a coffee problem), is someone I really admire. When we get together, we just talk about life stuff. Normally it seems like nothing, but when we leave each other one of us always ends up having an incredible idea or inspiring thought! We fuel creativity in one another.

It also depends on the type of workout I’m doing! getFIT615 has a playlist on Spotify called the getFIT615 Total Request Line – It’s a collaborative playlist where you can add anything you want to hear at a workout session. We’ve got everything from Ludacris to N’Sync to an amazing punk rock version of Kiss Me. I like stuff that makes me want to dance haha.

I currently am in need of some new shoes, but other than that, nothing!!
